Jhesset Thrina Enano is a journalist from Manila, Philippines. Her work focuses on the climate crisis, wildlife and biodiversity, natural hazards, and other environmental issues. She was previously the environment reporter for the daily English newspaper Philippine Daily Inquirer, where she produced in-depth reports on the impact of rising seas on Manila’s poor communities, the impact of climate change on the mental health of Filipinos, the plastic pollution crisis, and wildlife trafficking and illegal wildlife trade. In 2018, she reported on the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Katowice, Poland, as the lone Filipino recipient of a reporting fellowship from Climate Tracker. Her reporting has been supported by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Oxpeckers Center for Investigative Environmental Reporting and Internews’ Earth Journalism Network.
Beyond her environment stories, she has also extensively reported on human rights, criminal justice, and local governance, and has produced stories on the Philippine drug war. Her work has been recognized by the Catholic Mass Media Awards and the Lasallian Scholarum Awards. She is also a journalism trainer and educator, and is currently a special lecturer on journalism at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Manila.
