Jiyoon Kim is a reporter at the Korea Center for Investigative Journalism (KCIJ)-Newstapa. She started her journalistic career at Korea JoongAng Daily in 2013, where she mainly covered economic and trade policies as well as technologies. After joining KCIJ-Newstapa in September 2017, she has mainly worked in cross-border investigation projects with newsrooms overseas.
In collaboration with Global Investigative Journalism Network members Waseda Chronicle and Tempo, she worked in unveiling problems of coal-fired power plants in Indonesia, jointly invested by Korea and Japan. In 2018, she also worked on a cross-border investigation with German public broadcaster NDR and 22 other news outlets across the world to unveil the problem of fake academic publishers and its influence to science. Since participating in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’s collaboration Implant Files at the end of 2018, she has been covering drug and medical device industries as well as medical professionals.
