Milagros Salazar, Peru, is an investigative journalist and university professor specializing in database use.
Salazar is the director of Convoca, an investigative nonprofit newsroom based in Lima. She is coordinator of Lava Jato (Investigate Lava Jato), a cross-border project with 20 journalists from 11 countries in Latin America and Africa.
Salazar has worked as a reporter and editor in various daily national newspapers in Peru, including La República, where she specialized in covering political issues and social-environmental conflicts.
She published Peru’s first large-scale investigative data journalism report in IDL-Reporteros, revealing serious irregularities in Peru’s multimillion-dollar fishing industry. The series was a winner of IPYS’ 2012 Latin American Investigative Journalism Award. She also led Convoca’s project, “Excesos sin castigo”(Excesses unpunished), winner of the Data Journalism Awards, 2016 and finalist of the Ibero-American Award Gabriel García Márquez.
Salazar was member of the team that won the Excellence Journalism Award of the InterAmerican Press Association (SIP) 2016 in the category "InterAmerican Relations".
She has worked on ICIJ’s Panama Papers, 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner, and Paradise Paper.
